“Hello penguins, the Club Penguin virtual world will be closing March 29, 2017.”

The Club Penguin virtual world that many have come to love over the past 12 years is going to be shut down March 29, 2017.

Club Penguin is an online social-network game made by Disney in which one can make their own penguin avatar, adventure around the virtual worlds and play multiplayer games.

Over the past few years, Club Penguin has grown to over 200 million users, as opposed to the 12 million users in 2007. However, the monthly visitation to the online site has fallen from 7.4 million visits to 5.6 million visits from July of 2016 to December of 2016.

One reason for the virtual world’s decrease in popularity is that its projected audience is young children, who now tend to use mobile apps more and desktop computer games less.

In order to appeal to the changing youth, the company will launch Club Penguin Island, a new mobile app that will take the original Club Penguin’s place.

Although Club Penguin Island is related to the original Club Penguin virtual world, it is not possible to transfer one’s existing account or penguin to the new world. Club Penguin Island is a totally unique experience with new adventures, items, and features.

Coming with Club Penguin Island is a variety of new activities, including interacting with friends with a new chat system using emojis, dressing one’s penguin in new clothes, and much more.

Though it is not possible to transfer an existing account to the new virtual world, the company offers pre-registration for the new penguin-world.

Pre-registration is available to players in “select languages and territories” in order to get exclusive rewards upon first login.

Club Penguin Island is set to be released in March of 2017, but there is no specific release date for countries other than Australia and New Zealand, which received access to Club Penguin Island in December of 2016.
