Amber Minard- English & AVID

Where did you work before this? Tell us a little bit about yourself.

So I taught for two years in St. Louis and two years in Las Vegas, which was a lot of fun. I have a husband and I have a six-year-old and a three-year-old, two daughters, we live in Olathe. We just got a dog yesterday, which is kind of crazy timing to adopt a dog, but it was just the perfect dog. She’s an Irish Setter, she’s two year’s old, we got her at Wayside Waifs.

What has your impression of North been so far?

Oh, I love it. It’s a very academic community, which is totally me… so I’m very excited about that. I like the staff- they’ve all been very welcoming and helpful and fun, and I think it’ll be a good place to have a good teaching career. I’m teaching AVID, which has been like a goal of mine, in addition to ELA, I’m very excited to be teaching AVID.

What are you teaching other than AVID?

So I have three ELA 9, I have an ELA 11, and AVID 10.

Is there anything you want your future students to know about you?

They can always stop by if they have questions. That’s the kind of teacher I am. I’m really good about answering questions, if I’m teaching a class, you’re welcome to come in if you’ve got a pass out of your other class. I’m pretty laid back.

What are your goals this year for teaching?

I just want to make sure I know what I’m doing and that my students get the best education I can give them and that they have fun doing it.

Any fun facts?

I’m a leftie. I’m married to a leftie.
