Basketball’s Week in Review

Seniors Chris Anderson and Jackson Shank prepare for their matchup with Bishop Miege

The Mustang basketball team had a very busy past week as they competed in two games against Gardner and Bishop Miege. These were both important games as they have started their league play games in pursuit of their second consecutive EKL championship.

On Tuesday night, the team played at Garder-Edgerton and played a very efficient basketball game. The Mustangs beat the Blazers by a score of 50-37, maintaining through the tough final minutes of the game. This was a big win for North, as they recorded their first win within the competitive Eastern Kansas League.

Following Tuesday night’s game, the Mustangs went head to head with the Bishop Miege Stags who entered the game with a perfect 4-0 record and 2-0 record in the EKL. Entering this game, the Mustangs were ranked number 9 in the state and the Stags were ranked number 21 according to 810 Varsity.

The team got off to a slow start as Bishop Miege got out to a quick lead. During the second quarter, the Mustangs finally found their rhythm going basket for basket with Miege. The team fought extremely hard, never giving up, but in the end their effort wasn’t enough to come out with a victory. They lost by a final score of 51-36, but the score did not indicate the closeness of the game.

The Mustangs are hoping to rebound from their Friday night loss against the Timberwolves of BVSW this Tuesday. The game is at Blue Valley North at 7:30.
