On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the girls golf team will begin its quest for a state title. First, the girls must qualify for state through a regional at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course in Shawnee, Kansas.

At the regional, the ladies will face Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission East, Shawnee Mission North, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Shawnee Mission South, and Shawnee Mission West. North’s squad will be composed of seniors Jean Tyrrell, Maddie Kroll, Cecilia Ryan; junior Kristin Larson; sophomore Keely Gaeddert; and freshman Grace Fain.

After a dominating performance in the EKL Championship last week, the team hopes to make it to the state championship.

“As a team, I think we are all feeling really confident and ready, especially after our win at Swope Memorial Golf Course last week,” EKL champion Jean Tyrrell said. “All of us played really well, and we are hoping to bring that [momentum] to regionals.”

In order to advance to state, the ladies have to face their rival, the Shawnee Mission East Lancers.

“The most competition will be from Shawnee Mission East. Last week, they also won their conference, and our team scores have been comparable all year,” Tyrrell said.

The ladies will begin play at 8:30 a.m.; however, the girls will be bundled up in anticipation for the 40% chance of rain and 44 degree wind chill.
