Everyone has had that experience of their parents or grandparents starting a story with the famous line “When I was in highschool I….” and most of the time, we are bored out of our minds. Our teachers have been in high school since the day they graduated college and they have been able to see the school system change over the years.

“In our high school there were a lot of kids who really had no intention of going to college.”

Was there a certain teacher that inspired you to become a teacher? If so, what did they teach and how did they inspire you?

“I did have a teacher in high school who really sparked my interest.  He was our earth science teacher.  I took a lot of courses with him – geology, ecology, marine biology.  I participated in a trip to eight different national parks with him one summer and it is one of my favorite memories from high school.  He was always just a super animated guy.  It didn’t matter whether he was focusing on his content or just digressing, he always had interesting things to say.”

Would you go back and do it all over again if you had the option?

“No.  That’s silly.  One of man’s gifts is that he can imagine the world otherwise than it is, but a curse that comes along with it is that he can imagine the world otherwise than it was.”
