Josie is a junior and is a web editor of “The North Star.” This is her second year on staff. She has covered sports, student life, and spotlight stories. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys playing the flute,and softball. She is excited to get to continue writing and sharing stories with her friends and sharing them with the BVN community.
Madi Garrelts, Editor-In-Chief
Madi Garrelts is a senior and one of the editors in chief of “The North Star.” This is her third year on staff. She has covered student life and development in KC and is interested in events happening in KC and literature. Outside of the newsroom, she’s a part of the tennis team and loves to read. She is excited to take on a larger role in the newsroom and put exciting issues.
Cash Durbin, Social Media Editor
Cash is a senior and social media editor and staff writer of “The North Star.” This is his second year on staff. He has covered sports and student life. Outside of the newsroom, he enjoys soccer, video games, and spending time with friends. He is excited to photograph different sports at North and manage social media.
Safa Al Ameer, Staff Writer
Safa is a sophomore and staff writer of “The North Star.” This is her first year on staff. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys baking, playing basketball and reading. She is excited to write about Blue Valley North’s sport teams and student life.

Addison is a senior and editor-in-chief of “The North Star.” This is her 3rd year on staff. She has covered sports, academics and holiday controversies. Outside of the newsroom, she is a part of the American Saddlebred Horse Association and enjoys reading and going to concerts. She is excited to photograph events and put out intriguing issues for this school year!
Lauren Kopitas, Copy Editor
Lauren Kopitas is a senior and copy editor on “The North Star.” This is her second year on staff. She has covered art and the minutiae of contemporary thought, behavior and communication for the newspaper. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys reading and writing literary fiction, poetry and essays. She is excited to continue writing stimulating stories and engaging the minds of her readers.
Emily Hathaway, Staff Writer
Emily Hathaway is a junior and staff writer of “The North Star.” This is her first year 1st on staff. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys rock climbing, hanging with friends, and driving around. She is excited to write and do team bonding activities.
