BVN’s first football season under the direction of the new coach Drew Hudgins ended 0-8 with another loss in the playoffs making the final record 0-9. The season was regarded by many as a “rebuilding” year due to the new staff and new system implemented into the football culture and team.
Halfway through the season, the BVN coaches made the decision to change QBs and sophomore Lark Anderson went on to start the remaining six games.
Senior Will van Zon has played football for five years, four of which were at BVN. van Zon said that he hopes that future players will give their all.
“It was my favorite season so far, even though it wasn’t a winning season, the team chemistry was amazing,” van Zon said.
van Zon also said that this season was his best so far because of his development all over the field and was more mentally able to “[push] through more hurts, aches, and pains.”
Junior Dylan Sarna has played football for three years, all of which have been at BVN. Sarna said that his biggest influences when he started to play football were his teammates.
“The culture of the football was really different and they made it a lot more enjoyable than last year,” Sarna said.
Sarna said that he played the best game against Blue Valley Southwest when he scored two touchdowns. He also believes that his success this season came from the fact that he took the weight room seriously and really worked to improve himself. Sarna recommends focusing on next year.
“Don’t worry about this season but focus on the next season and what it will bring,” Sarna said.
Overall the BVN Mustangs football team can only go up after this season of transition. However, the Mustangs are changing divisions during the offseason due to enrollment, meaning that the Mustangs will be playing 5A instead of 6A for the next two seasons.
