With the end of the third quarter and spring break dawning, Blue Valley North students and families alike prepare for their plans during their 11 days off from school. Many families choose to travel over spring break, one example being the BVN senior class spring break trip. Some students, however, stay home for spring break instead of traveling.
Sophomore Madison Kemper mentioned some casual plans she had for spring break at home.
“One of my friends and I are going to go to a movie called ‘Wuthering Heights’ because we saw it on TikTok, and that’s kind of it,” Kemper said.
Some students, on the other hand, plan more long-term activities to do over break. Junior Jack Ducharme, for example, talked about plans he had months in the making.
“Well, I was, or I am, gonna go golfing with friends and family,” Ducharme said. “I have family that’s coming in town to visit, so it’ll be fun to see them.”
Despite staying home for spring break, both students commented that they enjoyed the opportunity to travel when they could. Kemper shared her go-to locations.
“Most of the time, I’m already going on a trip with my dad, which is usually in Florida,” Kemper said.
Kemper cited that she loved to travel due to the opportunity to visit new places. When asked if there were any pros or cons to staying home versus traveling, Kemper shared her thoughts.
“Staying home is good because you just get a break from school and all your practices, because usually you don’t have any practices on spring break, but it’s also nice exploring the world and seeing new places,” Kemper said.
Kemper expressed that her preference is to travel, despite the pros she stated of staying home.
“Honestly, I think it’d be better to go on trips instead, just to explore more,” Kemper said.
Ducharme also had positive things to say about travel, but cited different reasoning behind his thoughts.
“You know, in general, I would really like to get out of the house, [and] go somewhere,” Ducharme said. “I like taking vacations, yeah, but really getting out of the house in general is stuff I’d like to do.”
Ducharme shared some activities he liked to do at home over spring break, such as logging his life on video. When asked about what in particular he liked to record, Ducharme cited his day to day life as a source of inspiration.
“I kind of just, you know, like to film videos of what I do during the day most of the time, and sometimes I’d even go to sporting events and film those,” Ducharme said.
When asked about the pros and cons of staying home versus traveling, Ducharme was indifferent.
“I wouldn’t say [there are pros or cons],” Ducharme said. “You can still get out and do great things if you stay home, but I mean, if you travel somewhere else, you will mostly do different things.”
Despite the differences in opinions on traveling versus staying home, both students were able to share fun things to do at home over the spring break.
“I think just starting a new hobby [is fun], because you can just work on that over the week,” Kemper said.
Ducharme expressed similar thoughts on hobbies and pursuing activities that bring joy to him and other people.
“Something that I can think of is actually doing what they love,” Ducharme said. “If they’re into sports, they have a hobby, even hanging out with friends and family. Those are things I like to do, and I think those are also things a lot of other people like to do.”
