BVN Track Team Competes in First Meet of the Season

On Friday March 22 The BVN varsity track team traveled to the Olathe DAC to compete against Olathe South, Olathe West, Olathe Northwest and Olathe East.

On the varsity girls side, the girls team finished the meet with a total of 92.50 points. Which is 38.5 points off of Olathe South, who won the meet. Meanwhile the boys team finished the meet with a total of 44 points.  Both teams placed last, but some athletes were excited for their first meet of the season.

“I think they are doing incredibly well, everyone is working hard at their events and have already started to improve,” said senior Lily Strauss.

Individually, both teams had some athletes with high up finishes. On the boys side, James Eshleman finished sixth place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.53, scoring a point for the boys team.  Following Eshleman, Erik Roberts and Mac Pursell finished eighth and nine places with times of 24.53 amd 24.68.

In the boys 400m dash Cole Stratton and Zane Gibson finished 8th and 9th with times of 55.58 and 56.00. In the 300m hurdles Garrett Parish finished 10th place with a time of 46.58.

In discus Aidan Luther finished 6th place with a throw of 113-10. Andrew Orr and Gabe freeman both tied for 7th place in high jump, both jumping 8.00-5. In the javelin, Chance Craft threw 133-.04, finishing 6th place and earning a point for the boys team.

In Long jump, Erik Roberts jumped 21-1.50, winning the event and gaining 10 points for his team. Malik Bauer also jumped 19-10.00 placing 4th place and also earned 4 points for the team.  In Triple Jump, Malik Bower and Owen Schenk placed 1st and 5th jumping 43-7.00 and 37-11.00 earning points for their teams.

In Pole Vault, Todd Eubanks and Jack DeBow placed 1st and 2nd both jumping 9-6.00 and scoring points for the team.

On the female side, Elly Cook placed 6th in the 100m dash with a time of 14.04, scoring a point for the girls team. In the 200m dash, Lauren Cassaday finished third, earning 6 points for the girls team with a time of 27.85. Lauren Cassaday also won the 40m with a time of 1:01. 47.

In the 800m run Sophie Jones finished third with a time of 2:35. In the 1600m run, Anna Martin finished 5th place, earning two points for her team.

Cassie Scupham finished 4th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.57, gaining 4 points for her team. Scupham also finished 5th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 52.24.

In the 3200m run Vivian Kane and Maddie Austin finished 1st and 3rd with times of 12:10 and 12:28, earning a combined total of 16 points for the team.

In discss, Lexy Farrington finished 4th place throwing 99-08.  Farrington also Broke her own record in the javelin, winning the meet with a throw of 139-07. Janiyah Davis finished 5th in high jump with a jump of 4- 6.00.  In long jump, Christel De Bruin jumped 15-2.00 placing 4th place. Olivia Hailey placed 2nd in pole vault with a jump of 7-00.
