The spring semester is a busy time for Blue Valley North athletes. Baseball, softball, boys tennis, girls soccer and girls swim come into full swing at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With that said, here is a preview of what to expect this spring from our Mustang teams.
Baseball:
This season, the Mustangs Baseball team will be featuring one of the youngest lineups we’ve seen at North in recent years. Seniors Joe Chaffin and Hayden Ross will be leading the Mustangs through the season. With all of these factors, the Mustangs look to be competitive in a challenging EKL league. The baseball season is set to begin on March 21, when the Mustangs will host Park Hill at home.
Softball:
The first day of competition for softball is scheduled for March 19. With a win in the 6A regional tournament last year, followed by a trip to State, the Mustang girls will look to come back just as strong this year. Senior Hanna Krueger will lead the BVN Softball team through a challenging EKL schedule and hopefully take another trip back to the state tournament.
Girls Soccer:
March 19 will also mark the first day of competition for girls’ soccer. Following last year’s run in the playoffs, the Mustangs will look to bounce back stronger with their sights set on a state tournament appearance. The girls are led by seniors Lauren Freeburg and Cate Jernigan.
Boys Tennis:
This year, the boys’ tennis team at North has a fairly upperclassman-heavy roster. The team hopes to use its experience to gain an advantage throughout the regular season, where the boys will look to be competitive. The team will be led by seniors Mitchell Coleman and Abhi Kambhampati. The boys’ tennis season is set to begin on March 12 with its first game of the season.
Girls Swim:
Last season, North’s girls set the State Meet record for the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, posting a 1:36.21. This season, the girls will have their sights set on another competitive run at state. One promising underclassman for the girls’ swim team is sophomore Liddy McCoy. McCoy was one of the swimmers on last year’s record-setting relay, and she will look to have another strong season this year. The girls’ swim season will begin on March 16.
Regardless of our teams’ performance this spring, it is important for our Mustang fans to show up, show out, and rock the stable at every sporting event. Go support your Mustangs this spring as these athletes will be looking to finish the school year on a high note.
