Marvel and DC have always been stand-out names for superhero movies and TV shows. Recently, they both released new TV shows, featuring more obscure villains from their other projects. These shows are Marvel’s “Agatha All Along” and DC’s “The Penguin.” With both of these shows being released around the same time, and about superheroes, they are still different from each other. Both are still a good watch, even though they are not what viewers might be expecting.
“Agatha All Along” is a Marvel show starring the character Agatha Harkness, who debuted in the 2021 TV show “WandaVision”. The show is about Agatha, who is on a quest to regain her powers three years after the events of “WandaVision.” The show has a darker and more mysterious tone compared to other Marvel projects. The show focuses on magical elements, which is different from what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done before. “Agatha All Along” stars Kathryn Hahn as Agatha and Joe Locke as a mysterious new character referred to as Teen. Many other new characters are introduced into this dynamic cast to strengthen the plot. With its more grim and serious story, Agatha All Along is a thrilling action-adventure show that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
As for DC, their newest show, “The Penguin,” stars Oswald Cobblepot, the titular character of the same name. The show is about the Penguin and his attempts to climb up in the criminal empire of Gotham after the events of the 2022 movie “The Batman.” The show stars Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Rhenzy Feliz as his young apprentice, Victor Aguilar and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, his biggest threat to gaining control of Gotham’s criminal empire. The show is a gritty, serious crime drama, with more aspects relating to the behind-the-scenes of Gotham’s criminal underworld. While it doesn’t feature the superhero side of the DC universe, “The Penguin” still tells a compelling story.
While both shows feature darker narratives than their respective companies usually produce, “The Penguin” tells a deeper, more dramatic, compelling and real story. However, its mature themes and longer run time may push others towards the Marvel option. “Agatha All Along,” features a more thrilling and exciting story with magical and fantastical elements that shape it to be a fun watch. Even with their similarities and differences, both shows are enjoyable and worth the watch. While “Penguin” is still ongoing, “Agatha All Along” has recently come to an end. “Agatha All Along,” can be found on Disney+, while “The Penguin” can be found on Max and HBO.
