As the new year finally arrives, so does the 68th annual Grammy Awards Show, presented by the Recording Academy. Throughout the year, we have seen phenomenal artistic ability flourish as the music industry took a turn towards new beginnings. From Rosé’s “APT” to Kendrick Lamar’s “Luther,” countless albums and songs influenced our year more than we could have imagined. However, despite how influential an album or song might be, its success on the night of the Grammy Awards may be limited. So, let’s take a look at some of the top nominations for the 2026 Grammys and find out who really deserves to win.
Starting with the Album of the Year Category, a specific album definitely stands out. He may be known for being the 2026 Apple Super Bowl Halftime show performer by many; however, for most, it is for his album “DeBÍ TiRAR Más FOToS” that makes him so prominent. Bad Bunny revived individuality and culture through a single album and made listeners realize that all we have is now. So go ahead and take those photos, because one day you may not get that same chance. Bad Bunny reminded us that no matter how different our cultures are, we all understand the language of emotion, and that interconnectivity is what sustains communities. In all honesty, if this album does not win, I hope the Grammys face immense backlash. While Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” and Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem” may be catchy, DTMF conceptualized greatness.
Next up, we have the Song of the Year Category. In the past, we have seen Billie Eilish’s success at the Grammys, and hopefully, that same success will be rekindled this year for her song “Wildflower.” At only 23 years old, Eilish has nine Grammy wins and 34 nominations. Arguably, her past wins were not as deserved, but she deserves to win this year for “Wildflower.” This song captures the danger one feels when experiencing something new but the need to experience it regardless. Her ability to connect with her audience within a few minutes is what is truly captivating about this song.
Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Rosé, Sabrina Carpenter, along with many others, have the chance to be recognized next year, yet many prominent artists do not have that same chance. A prime example is The Weekend and his song with Playboi Carti, “Timeless.” This song had 1.27 billion streams on Spotify alone, yet somehow no nominations. Many believe this is due to Abel calling out the Grammys and their unfairness in 2021, and for a period of time not submitting his music to the Academy. Although, is that really why he was not nominated? After all, many artists like Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa faced the same issue of being overlooked.
Is it possible that the Grammy Awards are really just a curated night of showcases and presentations to distract the public from how unethical they are when it comes to choosing winners? I mean, come on, how is it that a group of people that are not even in the age range of today’s listeners can choose who wins? Are we set up to watch the “Scammys” or the Grammys? It is very possible that the Recording Academy guarantees wins to those who are promised to comply with their choices and bring in the most revenue, rather than to those whose music had the most success with the public.
